2. What does it mean?
3. How do I apply it to my daily life?
Scripture: John 19:38-20:31
Title: If the Tomb is Empty…
BIG IDEA: Jesus meets us in our humanity: in our fears, in our insecurity, in our sorrows, in our doubts, and he offers us faith. Do you believe?
This week let’s all share what our life looks like with Jesus as Lord, and how that is different than our life before we were saved.
READ: John 19:38-42
What do we learn about Joseph and Nicodemus in these verses? What has following Jesus cost you?
READ: John 20:1-10
What stands out to you from these verses?
READ: John 20:11-29
What commands and promises does Jesus give both the disciples present, and the disciples of today?
READ: John 20:30-31 & Psalm 95
How has your faith in Jesus led you to find true life?
Jesus meets us right where we are. We see the Resurrected Christ meet the insecure, arrogant, downcast, doubters, and the overwhelmed.
How are you coming to Jesus right now? How is He meeting you right where you are? Is anything standing in the way of deepening your relationship with Jesus?
Challenge:
During your quiet time this week, read Hebrews 11:1—11 and consider the following:
God’s word: The writer of Hebrews wants us to know that sometimes we have to look back in order to move forward. God has always been faithful because that is who He is.
God’s faithfulness: Where has God been faithful in your past? Write ALL of them down (big and small).
Present reality: Write down ALL of your fears, insecurities, doubts, and pain from the past/present.
• Connect the dots: Looking at both lists, draw lines from your present fears/insecurities/doubts/pain to the specific places God was faithful through similar feelings and situations in the past.

John 18:12-19:37
Sermon Title: What is truth?
John’s perspective is unique compared to the other Gospels in terms of the passion narrative. Take a moment this week to read through the whole of 18:12-19:37 in your own time, and compare it with the other gospels; see what similarities and differences you find!
Read: 18:12-27
Consider:
What do you think Peter’s goal is in denying Christ three times?
Wonder:
What would you do if you were in Peter’s situation? How would you have reacted differently than him, or the same as him?
Transform:
Where have you denied the truth of Jesus? Or what is a situation where you have affirmed the truth of Jesus in the face of opposition? What is needed for you to choose to speak about the truth of Jesus in your daily life consistently?
Read: 18:28-40
Consider:
How does Pilate’s attitude change, or stay the same in this section of scripture?
Wonder:
Imagine you are in Pilate’s shoes. How would you have responded to Jesus’ statement of, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Every one who is of the truth hears my voice.” ? Would it be similar or different from Pilate?
Transform:
When have you seen the truth of Jesus in your life? Tell a story about a time where you have seen God at work.
Read: 19:1-16
Consider:
In what ways was Jesus mocked for being “The King of the Jews?”
Wonder:
How would you have responded in the midst of the crowds when they wanted to crucify Jesus? Would Caesar have been your king as well?
Transform:
How is God working in your life right now? Write down where you see God working and take a moment to give praise and thanks for what He has done.
Read: 19:17-37
Consider:
What parts of this passage stuck out to you? Write down two to three things that you want to study further
Wonder:
Have you ever imagined what this scene looks like? What does that image look like in your head? Draw a picture of what this passage looks like to you. Consider drawing all of the people crucified with Christ, and the people who look by at those hanging on the cross.
Transform:
What prayer requests do you have this week? How can people be walking with you as you live out the truth of the gospel this week?
Constant Reminder
Judas was a consumer not a worshiper… Mary was a worshiper.
Consumer: its all about me Worshiper: its all about Jesus
Consumer: rolls up and says I hope this church meets all my needs. A Worshiper pulls up and says I hope this church points me to THE ONE WHO HAS MET ALL MY NEEDS.
Consumer: comes in and says this music better be good. A worshiper says I hope the Worship Leader points me to THE GOOD GOOD FATHER.
A consumer says I want to be entertained by todays sermon… A worshiper says I want some Cross centered preaching that makes a difference.
A consumer says it better be fun for my kids. A worshiper says this better equip me to disciple my family.
A consumer says this better make me sit and feel comfortable… A worshiper says this better SEND ME OUT!
